Attractive volume of poetry by this famous polymath, one of the most prominent figures in Russian history, who gave his name to the Moscow university. Lomonosov (1711-65) left a significant legacy of scientific and literary works. The present edition was edited by the Russian critic and historian Vvedenskii (1844 – 1909) and comprises some of the verses which laid foundations for the Russian literary language.

Provenance

Avenir Nizoff (a pianist, who lived in Edmonton, Canada, in the second half of the 20th century, and gathered a large, wide-ranging library of Russian works, especially covering art, history and literature).

Binding

Publisher’s red cloth with gilt ornament to upper board, black ornaments and lettering to boards and spine

Condition

Gilt on upper board slightly rubbed, without upper fly-leaf; light occasional foxing and browning, sometimes a bit heavier.
