Early translation, here the first in Swedish, of Sumarokov’s important Journey through all Crimea and Bessarabia in 1799. First an office in the guards, Pavel Sumarokov (1767 – 1846) soon retired and devoted himself to public and literary activities. The government sent him as a judge in Crimea, and in the beginning of the 19th century he became the civil governor of Vitebsk. He became senator and member of the prestigious Russian Academy of Sciences.
Sumarokov became famous for writing the essays “On the reign of Catherine the Great,” “Traits of Catherine the Great,” and the drama “Martha the Governor’s Wife,” the comedies ” Snappy Dresser”, “Green Corset”, “Walk Abroad”, etc.
