First edition in Russian of this important work by Bruckner (1834–96), a Russian historian of German origin. One of the great historical works on Peter the Great. Each of the six parts of this richly illustrated publication deals with different aspect of the life and reign of the famous tsar,outlining his personality, associates, administrative and political reforms and foreign policy.
Provenance
Avenir Nizoff (émigré, pianist, who lived in Edmonton, Canada, in the second half of the 20th century, and gathered a large, wide-ranging library of Russian works, especially covering art, history and literature).

Two volumes 4to (27 x 19.5 cm). 6 parts in 2 vols. Half-title, title, [2], XX, 368 pp.; half-title, title, 686, VIII, 27 pp., with 41 plates in total and multiple illustration in text, each part with own title page.
Binding
Contemporary red sheep over marbled boards, spines with raised bands, gilt lettered and gilt tooled in compartments.
Condition
Binding rubbed, corners slightly bumped; 1 plate in vol 1 loose, light marginal waterstain to title, half-title and several leaves at the rear of vol 2.
