Our Notes & References

First edition of this transcript of a lecture presented on 29 July 1946, by the Soviet international economist Arsenii Santalov (1900-60), where he demonstrates the growing importance of oil in the world economics, and hints at the necessary emphasis on oil production in Soviet post-war politics. Santalov’s lecture consists of 7 parts, including these telling titles: “The struggle for oil between England and the USA”, “US oil monopolies go on the offensive” and “The role of oil in the Second World War”. As Santalov highlights the English and especially the American attempts to monopolize the oil production and export worldwide, he quotes American, English and German contemporary periodicals, such as The Petroleum Times, The Oil Weekly and H.L. Ickes’ book titled “Fightin’ Oil”.
